Jaxson Moi reflects on challenges of facing Oklahoma's high-powered offense
Texas Tech linebacker Jaxson Moi discusses the difficulties of defending against the Sooners' potent attack
Moi acknowledges the speed, athleticism, and playmaking ability of Oklahoma's offense
Texas Tech linebacker Jaxson Moi knows all too well the challenges of facing the Oklahoma Sooners' high-powered offense. Moi and the Red Raiders defense were on the receiving end of a 55-24 beatdown in Norman last season, and they'll have to face the Sooners again in Lubbock this year.
Moi said the Sooners' offense is one of the most difficult to defend in the country because of its speed, athleticism, and playmaking ability.
"They've got a lot of weapons," Moi said. "They've got a great quarterback in Dillon Gabriel, and they've got a lot of playmakers at receiver and running back. They're a very explosive offense, and they can score points in a hurry."
Moi said the key to defending the Sooners is to try to slow down their tempo and keep them out of the end zone.
"We've got to try to keep them off the field as much as possible," Moi said. "We've got to get off the field on third down, and we've got to force them to punt. If we can do that, we'll have a chance to win the game."
The Red Raiders will have their work cut out for them when they face the Sooners on October 22nd. But if they can play disciplined defense and force Oklahoma into some mistakes, they may have a chance to pull off the upset.
